Meeting planned seeking feedback on new ID waste repository

People interested in discussing a new waste repository in Idaho’s Silver Valley are invited to an upcoming community workshop. Representatives from Idaho Department of Quality and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be sharing public feedback shared at a recent public forum, including suggestions for a repository to contain contaminated soils from the Bunker Hill Superfund site. The workshop will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 24 at the Wallace Inn in Wallace. Though people are invited to comment, it isn’t an official public hearing. The proposed repository will be placed somewhere in the valley, possibly between Big Creek and Mullan. Several possible locations have been suggested at other hearings, and this workshop will include a presentation of a smaller list. Feedback from this meeting will help narrow the selection down even further. This workshop is organized by the Citizens Coordinating Council of the Basin Environmental Project Commission. Documents about the repository will soon be available online at www.basincommission.com.
