Shock cruise 88-27 in record-setting win
STOCKTON, Calif. – The Spokane Shock, thriving on a diet of Lightning turnovers, rolled to an 88-27 arenafootball2 victory over Stockton Friday, setting team records for points scored, margin of victory and takeaways.
The No. 1-ranked and undefeated Shock snagged six interceptions – also a club record – and recovered three fumbles on their way to their 10th win.
Stanley Franks tied a club record with three interceptions, Sergio Gilliam picked off two and Kevin McCullough one.
“With 88 points the offense will get a lot of attention, but tonight our defense was the star of the game,” Shock coach Adam Shackleford said.
Raul Vijil caught five touchdown passes and has 16 in this season’s three victories over the Lightning (4-7). Charles Dillon added four TDs.
The Shock scored TDs on 13 of their 14 possessions with their biggest quarter a 29-point fourth. Nick Davila threw for seven touchdowns and ran for another in three quarters.
Before the game, Shock defensive back Aaron Williams was placed on injured reserve.
The Shock return home a week from today for a 7 p.m. game against the Tri-Cities Fever, who have lost their two previous meetings to Spokane by a combined 71 points.
