Community members needed for Fire Corps

From Local Reports

COEUR D’ALENE – The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department needs the community’s help.

Since Sept. 11, 2001, fire and emergency service departments nationwide have struggled with increased demands coupled with reduced funding, the fire department said in a news release.

The fire department has created a Fire Corps program and is looking for volunteers, the release said.

Fire Corps is a component of the Department of Homeland Security’s Citizen Corps program. It is a grassroots effort to increase the capacity of fire and emergency departments through use of volunteers. Citizens can assist with nonemergency functions, including Web site design, fire safety education and other tasks.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Fire Corps coordinator and retired Chief Jim Miller at jdmill911@aol.com or Fire Inspector Bobby Gonder at (208) 769-2245.
