In brief: Favre still pondering Vikings
NFL: Brett Favre says he is considering coming out of retirement for a second time and the only team he has talked to about a return to the NFL is the Minnesota Vikings.
Favre appeared on the new HBO show “Joe Buck Live” in his first public appearance since retiring from the New York Jets in February.
The three-time NFL MVP said Monday night he had surgery 21/2 weeks ago on his throwing arm. He says the doctor who performed the surgery on his biceps told him it would take four to five weeks for the NFL’s career leader in touchdown passes to know if the procedure was a success.
Favre says he has had contact with the Vikings, but “nothing more than ‘Are you interested?’ ”

Golfer loses right leg
Golf: Champions Tour golfer Ken Green’s lower right leg was amputated Monday following a recreational vehicle accident last week in which his brother and girlfriend died.
He was under sedation and in good condition after the three-hour operation at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Green’s agent and close friend Kevin Richardson said.
“He’s safe and he tolerated it well,” Richardson told the Associated Press. He added that Green hopes to play competitive golf again.
He returned to competitive golf last year when he joined the Champions Tour for players over 50. He was 54th on the money list before the accident.

USC basketball loses another
Men’s basketball: Forward Derrick Williams has requested and been granted a release from his basketball letter of intent to play at Southern California.
Williams, from nearby La Mirada High, joins guard Lamont Jones, from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., as recruits who have changed their minds since Tim Floyd resigned last week as basketball coach.
The university announced Williams’ release Monday.
The basketball program is under investigation by the NCAA involving allegations that Floyd paid to have O.J. Mayo delivered to the Trojans.
Since the Trojans’ season ended in March, starters DeMar DeRozan, Taj Gibson and Daniel Hackett, along with Marcus Johnson, declared for next week’s NBA draft, and the Trojans have lost seven recruits.
