Sox attack early in win

Indians strike out 12 times in defeat

EVERETT – The Everett AquaSox scored four runs in the first inning and their pitchers did the rest in a 5-1 Northwest League baseball victory Friday night.

Three Everett pitchers gave up five hits while striking out 12.

Indians starter Matt Thompson (0-1) gave up six hits in the first, including Hawkins Gebbers’ two-run homer. The Sox followed his blast with four straight hits, including a double, in scoring twice more.

Everett’s final run came in the seventh against Sam Brown, the third and final Indians pitcher. Justin King turned in three strong innings, giving up one hit and one walk and striking out five Sox.

Clark Murphy went 2 for 4 and had the Indians’ lone RBI.
