Church groups plan fundraisers

It appears to be a week for fundraising at several Valley churches that will host events to benefit various causes.

• The Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will host its “Sock Hop” auction next Saturday. The evening will begin with a silent auction at 4:30 p.m. a turkey dinner at 5 and a live auction beginning at 6. Those attending are encouraged to wear sock hop attire such as poodle skirts and letter sweaters or jackets.

The cost of the dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Proceeds from the event will be used to send church youths to summer camp and to support children’s programs at the church.

• The youths of the Veradale United Church of Christ will host a game day and soup luncheon next Saturday. The luncheon will be served at noon, followed by games for all ages from 1 to 4 p.m. Those attending may bring their favorite game to play. Donations will be accepted.

The event will raise money for youth programs. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road. Call (509) 926-7173 for more information.

• The Happy Quilters Group at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave., will host a bake sale and quilt raffle between services on Sunday beginning at 9:20 a.m. to raise money for their projects. Raffle tickets will be $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will be on March 29 and raffle tickets will be sold after services every Sunday until then.

Lent services

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, will host weekly worship services and soup suppers during Lent. Each Wednesday a soup supper will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a worship service at 7. The services will continue through Holy Week.

Book sale

Opportunity Presbyterian Church will host its annual book sale today from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale also includes tapes, CDs, puzzles and more. The church is at 202 N. Pines Road.
