Huskies beat Cougars 28th time in row
PULLMAN – In an otherwise disastrous season, the Washington Huskies can take solace in the fact that they ended their regular season with victory over the cross-state rival Washington State Cougars.
Make that for the 28th straight time.
Senior Sami Whitcomb scored 18 points and had six rebounds to lead the Huskies to a 62-55 Pacific-10 Conference women’s basketball victory over the Cougars Friday night at Friel Court.
Freshman Kristi Kingma added 13 points for the Huskies (7-21, 3-15), who haven’t lost to Washington State since the 1994-95 season, including 14 straight in Pullman.
The Huskies had a 50-39 lead with 8:37 remaining before the Cougars (11-18, 4-14) mounted a 16-4 run to take a 55-54 lead with 2:36 left.
But Washington scored the game’s final eight points to claim the victory.
Freshman April Cook poured in 23 points and hauled in eight rebounds for Washington State. Jazmine Perkins had 16 points and Heather Molzen had 10 rebounds.
The Pac-10 tournament begins Thursday at the Galen Center in Los Angeles. Pairings were not available.
