Sportsman’s will honor old cards

Sportsman’s Warehouse stores in Spokane Valley and Coeur d’Alene will honor gift cards customers obtained prior to the recent sale of the stores through March 31.

A total of 15 stores recently were acquired by UFA Cooperative based in Calgary, putting the previously issued Sportsman’s Warehouse gift cards on hold.

Natalie Dawes, UFA Cooperative spokeswoman, said Friday the resolution enables customers to use their cards through the month.

“After that, the cards will still be redeemable, but only at Sportsman’s Wareshouse stores still owned by the original company,” she said, noting that the closest of those stores to the Spokane area are in Billings, and Medford, Ore.

Court: Madoff’s jailing was proper

Disgraced financier Bernard Madoff was properly put in prison to await sentencing in one of the largest financial frauds in history, an appeals court ruled Friday as the government released victims’ emotional letters describing their losses.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued its written ruling a day after hearing arguments from the government and a lawyer for the 70-year-old former Nasdaq chairman.

The dozens of letters released Friday had been forwarded to U.S. District Judge Denny Chin before Madoff confessed March 12 to defrauding thousands of investors of billions of dollars.
