Brooke needs a better shield

Brooke Shields says she’s frightened and frustrated by the media storm the Kiefer Sutherland arrest has dumped on her doorstep – and really doesn’t understand why she’s being brought into the situation at all.

Sutherland was charged last week with head-butting designer Jack McCollough at a Manhattan nightclub. Reports claim that happened after McCollough bumped into Shields – a friend of both men – and police have said they want to question her.

“I am always interested in the fact that I can be minding my own business, I can be in London doing a play, and things could happen. It is inexplicable to me,” Shields says, adding that her lawyers won’t let her comment further.

Shields, 42, is also upset that the paparazzi are monitoring her since the case developed.

“It is frightening and shocking the access people have to everybody else. They are camped outside of my house,” she said.

“I am shocked, and I feel like I have already been through so much that I am fortified in longevity. To me I am not going anywhere. If it hasn’t thrown me yet, it is not going to throw me now.”

Fighting Urban terrorism

Country star Keith Urban understands that paparazzi come along with fame, but he draws a line when it comes to his infant daughter.

“I’m as protective of my family as any father and husband can be. It can be just a bit intrusive, you know,” he says.

“It’s just a reality. I understand the society we live in. It’s a bit odd at times in that regard.”

Urban and his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, had their first child, Sunday Rose, last July.

Mommy laugh tracks

Speaking of celebrity babies, comedian Wanda Sykes and wife Alex are the parents of twins, daughter Olivia Lou and son Lucas Claude. Born to Alex, they’re the first children for the couple, who married last October.

And former “Saturday Night Live” player Maya Rudolph says she’s expecting her second child with filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. They already have a 3-year-old daughter.

Shades for all seasons

Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, who’s rarely seen without dark glasses at fashion shows, explains why Sunday on CBS’ “60 Minutes.”

Wintour says her signature shades act as “armor.” Whether she’s enjoying a runway show, or bored out of her mind, nobody will notice.

Would that be a sinking fund?

“Titanic” stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have pledged to help the last survivor of the sinking of the ocean liner.

They’ve thrown their support behind a fund that would subsidize Millvina Dean’s nursing home fees. Dean was 2 months old when the Titanic sank on the night of April 14, 1912.
