Denial Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy denied being offered the Colorado Avalanche’s coaching job, a position held by Tony Granato. The Denver Post reported Monday that Roy had received an offer and was mulling it over. The Avalanche declined comment on the report, which cited anonymous league sources. Later Monday, a spokeswoman for the junior league club Roy co-owns and coaches told the Associated Press that Roy had not received an offer from his old NHL team.

Battling Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has taken an indefinite leave of absence while he continues treatment for a cancerous tumor on his spine. Johnson, 67, was treated for melanoma in 2001. In January the team announced the cancer had returned.

Interviewing The Philadelphia 76ers are moving forward with their coaching search, setting up interviews with assistants Dwane Casey of the Dallas Mavericks and Tom Thibodeau of the Boston Celtics. Casey spent 11 seasons as a Sonics assistant and was fired partway through his second season as head coach of the Timberwolves. Thibodeau has spent 19 years as an NBA assistant coach.

Signed The Baltimore Ravens have signed veteran free agent wide receiver Kelley Washington to a one-year contract. He was acquired Monday after trying out at a recent minicamp where the team also auditioned Jerry Porter and Tab Perry.

Withdrawing Kei Nishikori of Japan is withdrawing from the French Open because of an injured right elbow. Nishikori has not played since losing in the first round at Indian Wells, Calif., in March.
