Cleared Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke was not suspended Wednesday for a knee-to-knee hit on Erik Cole during the third period of Pittsburgh’s 3-2 victory in Game 1 on Monday night.

Granted NASCAR has given Jeremy Mayfield’s attorney a copy of the suspended driver’s toxicology report. Charlotte (N.C.) attorney Bill Diehl requested the documents from NASCAR, spokesman Ramsey Poston said.

Filed Kansas State filed a lawsuit challenging a secret deal between former athletic director Bob Krause and ex-football coach Ron Prince that would pay Prince $3.2 million in deferred compensation between 2015 and 2020. Prince’s agent responded that the lawsuit is without merit.

Hobbled San Francisco cornerback Walt Harris could miss the upcoming season after tearing a ligament in his right knee, dealing an early blow to the 49ers’ hopes of a return to playoff contention. Harris, a 13-year pro entering his fourth year with the 49ers, was injured during Tuesday’s practice in a collision with receiver Dominique Zeigler.

Honored Two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal, part of the “Spanish Armada” with Seve Ballesteros that became the most formidable team in the Ryder Cup, has been elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame. Olazabal will be inducted Nov. 2 in St. Augustine, Fla.
