Lewis and Clark beats University in shootout

Opportunities for the Lewis and Clark and University girls soccer teams were scarce Saturday at their District 8 4A playoff game at Albi Stadium, with regulation and two overtimes yielding no scoring and a combined 11 shots.

In the shootout, LC keeper Sarah Wood kept that trend alive, halting the Titans’ first two attempts, while Kelli Lessmeier notched the winner for the Tigers, giving them a 4-2 edge in the shootout for a 1-0 victory.

The win against U-Hi advances the Tigers to Wednesday’s final round against Mead, with both teams earning berths to the regional tournament Friday.

Mead advanced to the district title game with a 4-1 victory over Central Valley in the second game at Albi. Lindsey Pangborn scored a pair of first-half goals against CV and the Panthers allowed just six shots in the contest.

CV’s Bears will meet U-Hi Wednesday, with the winner advancing to regionals.

3A regional tournament: Shadle Park’s season ended with a 4-0 loss to host Hanford, which advanced to play at Mt. Spokane Wednesday. Hanford scored in the opening minute off a goal from Tessa Foster. Hanford added three more, outshooting Shadle 12-6.

Volleyball

District 8 4A: Alexis Olgard hammered 18 kills and added five blocks as Mead swept Lewis and Clark 25-22, 25-15, 25-23 at the tournament at Mt. Spokane High School to advance to the 4A regional tournament as the top seed. Emma Barrington tallied 18 assists as the Panthers toppled the defending state champions. … LC upended University with a 15-7 decision in Game 5 in the match to determine the second and third seeds at the regional tournament. Janele Vogt led LC with 18 kills, seven blocks and two aces. … U-Hi advanced to regionals by beating Gonzaga Prep 18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-23 in a loser-out match. Ashley Moon contributed 37 assists and libero Jordan Schmerer had 27 digs for U-Hi. … The 4A regional tournament starts Friday with Wenatchee vs. Richland and Kamiakin vs. Lewis and Clark at Rogers High, and Mead playing host to Eisenhower, and U-Hi playing Southridge at Mead.

District 8 3A: Mt. Spokane rallied from a loss in Game 1 to beat North Central 18-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-20 to earn the tournament title at Mt. Spokane. Kenzie Reid finished with 19 assists and 11 digs and Annie Arnzen finished with a match-high 16 kills for the Wildcats. … To determine the third and fourth seeds, Shadle Park defeated East Valley in five games, led by 19 kills from Kendall Vesneske and 19 digs apiece from Mackenzie Grimes and Kailey Olson. … With the Columbia Basin Big Nine still yet to determine its seeds for the regional tournament, the GSL will send Mt. Spokane as No. 1, followed by NC, Shadle and EV, with matches Saturday at Hanford High School.

Panorama League 2B tournament: St. George’s advanced as the No. 1 seed to the District 7 2B tournament with a 25-21, 24-26, 29-27, 25-23 victory over Springdale, which advanced as the second seed. Lauren Grzlek had 16 kills, Delaney Reynolds tallied 36 digs and Ashlin Sturbaum brought her block total to seven for the tournament with five against the Chargers. … Republic made it in as the No. 3 team winning in four games over Selkirk.

Bi-County League 2B tournament: Colfax ran away with a 25-11, 25-11, 26-24 sweep over Northwest Christian in the tournament title game at Northwest Christian to earn the No. 1 seed to the District 7 tournament. The Crusaders could not stop Kayla Johnson, who led everyone with 23 kills and added three aces and two blocks. Cousin Rachel Johnson added 13 assists for the Bulldogs. … Davenport moved on as the No. 3 seed in five games over Lind-Ritzville, winning the deciding fifth game 15-3. … Reardan beat Lind-Ritzville in three games to take fourth. All District 7 matches will be played at St. George’s.

Panorama League 1B tournament: Cusick upended Northport in four games, including a 25-9 match-clinching Game 4, to advance as the top seed for the District 7 1B tournament. Lydia Treischel tallied 10 kills and eight digs and Andrea Fountain led with 23 assists and six aces for the Panthers. Taking third place was Columbia, which beat Curlew in four games. … Cusick will play the winner of Wellpinit/Wilbur-Creston, followed by Columbia vs. Sprague-Harrington at Cusick at the District 7 1B tournament in Cusick. Almira/Coulee-Hartline will host Curlew, with Odessa vs. Northport also at ACH.
