Hall of fame will induct Doering
Volleyball: Sue Doering, who has coached volleyball at the Class 2A, 1A and 2B levels for 30 years, is one of the three women who will be inducted into the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame today.
Doering, in her 22nd year as coach of the Colfax Bulldogs, has been selected 1A coach of the year nine times and was selected as National Federation of High School’s coach of the year in 2008. The Bulldogs have won five straight state titles in volleyball.
Joining Doering among this year’s inductees class is Bertha Koplitz, who coached volleyball for 23 years at South Bend High School, and Terri McMahan, who coached for 15 years at Ferndale.
Doering and Koplitz will be presented plaques tonight before the 2B and 1B championship matches at the Yakima SunDome. McMahan will receive her plaque tonight at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.

Gonzaga, EWU open tonight
College basketball: The Gonzaga men open the regular season against Mississippi Valley State at 5 tonight at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
The Delta Devils, who return two starters from last year’s 7-25 squad, opened their season with a 94-66 loss at Washington State on Friday night.
Gonzaga, which visits No. 2 Michigan State on Tuesday, lists Demetri Goodson, Steven Gray, Matt Bouldin, Elias Harris and Robert Sacre as starters.
The Zags will redshirt freshman forward Sam Dower and freshman guard David Stockton, according to a school release.
•Eastern opens its men’s home season against Portland at 1:05 p.m. today.
The Eagles tuned up for the opener with exhibition wins over Saint Martin’s (98-61) and Montana State-Billings (67-58).
The Pilots have been picked to finish second in the WCC this season, finishing just four points behind perennial favorite Gonzaga.
Chiefs take on Blazers tonight
Hockey: The Spokane Chiefs try to rebound from a disappointing home effort when they play the Kamloops Blazers at the Arena tonight at 7.
The Chiefs are 10-7-1 for 21 points and fourth in the U.S. Division after losing 5-2 to visiting Everett on Tuesday. Kamloops is 10-11-2 for 22 points, third in the B.C. Division. The Blazers lost 7-2 Friday to the Seattle Thunderbirds.
