Released Seattle Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid is out of the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia. The team says that Schmid was released on Monday. He spent four nights at Overlake Hospital in Seattle after being admitted last Thursday night after having trouble breathing.

Hired Western Kentucky has hired Stanford assistant Willie Taggart as its football coach. Taggart replaces David Elson, who was fired two weeks ago but agreed to finish the season. The Hilltoppers are 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the Sun Belt Conference. They have lost 18 straight games dating to last year, the nation’s longest active losing streak. Taggart is in his third season as running backs coach at Stanford.

Signed Veteran Omar Vizquel agreed to a $1,375,000, one-year contract with the Chicago White Sox. The 42-year-old is an 11-time Gold Glove winner and has played mostly shortstop during 21 major league seasons.

Fired Former U.S. skater Peter Mueller was fired as Norway’s speedskating coach less than three months before the Winter Olympics following an accusation of sexual harassment. The Norwegian Skating Association said the 55-year-old coach violated his contract and failed to maintain ethical standards. He has coached the team for six years in a country where the sport is widely popular.

Diagnosed North Carolina State offensive coordinator Dana Bible has been diagnosed with leukemia and won’t coach the Wolfpack’s season finale against No. 23 North Carolina. Head coach Tom O’Brien said Bible will remain in a Chapel Hill cancer center for 30 days of treatment. The school said Bible has been diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.
