Prep roundup: Tigers knock Wildcats from unbeaten ranks

Sarah Barrentine and Annie Pokorny scored goals 11 minutes apart in the second half to guide the host Lewis and Clark Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Mt. Spokane Wildcats on Wednesday in a Greater Spokane League match at Hart Field.

After a scoreless first half, LC (6-2, 3-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute on Barrentine’s goal and stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 68th minute on Pokorny’s header. Mt. Spokane (6-1, 2-1) scored with 2 minutes left on a goal by Alexia Pruneau.

Elsewhere in the GSL, Mikayla Anderson scored three goals – two of them unassisted in the final 5 minutes – and the unbeaten Mead Panthers (6-0, 4-0) cruised to a 5-2 victory over the visiting East Valley Knights (0-5, 0-4). … Janee Langford scored 20 minutes into the match and goalkeeper Ashley Rothrock made it stand up as the visiting Shadle Park Highlanders (5-3, 3-1) edged the North Central Indians (1-5, 0-4) 1-0. … Madi Payne tallied three goals and an assist to spark the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups (5-2, 2-2) to a 4-0 road win over the Rogers Pirates (0-4, 0-4). … Megan Dempsey netted a pair of goals and added an assist and the University Titans (6-2, 3-1) scored five unanswered goals en route to a 6-1 win over the visiting Central Valley Bears (2-5, 1-2).

•Great Northern League: Pullman’s match at Medical Lake was postponed because the officials failed to show up. The game will be made up on Oct. 14.

Volleyball

Aley Roberts had nine kills, Whitney Johnson tallied 16 digs and Brittney Belote piled up 21 assists to lead the Rogers Pirates to a 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 27-25 non-league win over the visiting Springdale Chargers.

Rogers coach Rhett Lashbrook noted it was the Pirates’ first win in at least four years and maybe as many as six.
