Grab two-for-one special for Mann
Here’s a great deal for Aimee Mann fans.
On Monday morning, tickets for her Coeur d’Alene show will begin selling at a two-for-one price: $15 each, instead of $30.
Mann, famous for her “Magnolia” soundtrack contributions and her earlier ’Til Tuesday career, is booked into the new Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene on Saturday at 8 p.m.
She’s the first musical act to perform in this beautiful 400-seat theater. She’ll be accompanied by her full band.

It continues for 13 more performances on weekends through Oct. 25 at Spokane Community College’s Lair Auditorium, 1810 N. Greene St.

‘Viva Oz Vegas’
A show has been booked into the Bing Crosby Theater on Saturday at 7 p.m. that … well, I can only shake my head at in wonder.
Here’s how “Viva Oz Vegas,” a Vegas-style floor show, is described on its Web site: “The yellow brick road leads Dorothy into the temptations of Sin City, where her encounters find her replacing the long-time starring lady at Casino Oz – the Wicked Witch of the Breast.”
Oooo-kay. It features a lineup of acts including El Vez: The Mexican Elvis, a breakdancer named Yoshi Wright, an acrobatic act and various showgirl chorus lines.
This is not, obviously, aimed at kids. Tickets are $18, through TicketsWest.
EWU Roktoberfest
It’s time for the Eastern Washington University Libraries Annual Fundraiser, and this one has a rock ’n’ roll theme.
“Rokbtoberfest, Rock in the Library” takes place Saturday from 5 to 10:30 p.m. at the JFK Library on the Cheney campus. The festivities include dinner and an auction, along with wine-tasting, beer-tasting and rock music.
Auction items include a week at a luxury resort in Los Cabos. The most intriguing item: A 1942 letter from Bing Crosby to Joe Albi, donated by Don and Cyndi Cutler. You can also win a meal with author Patrick F. McManus.
Tickets are $35 ($175 for a reserved table for six), or $15 for students. All proceeds benefit the EWU Libraries Collection Endowment Fund.

This nationally touring show features a Big Band orchestra and a team of vocalists and dancers.
Tickets range from $29 to $49 and should still be available at the door.

Admission is free, but donations will be collected for the Advocates of the Bing Crosby Theater.
Curnow Big Band
The Bob Curnow Big Band is returning to its former haunts at the Ichiban Sushi Lounge, 202 W. Third Ave., Monday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The University of Idaho Jazz Ensemble will warm up the crowd with a set at 6:45 p.m.
Arnie Carruthers birthday blast
Area jazz legend Arnie Carruthers will celebrate his 80th birthday with a party/jam session next Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Valley VFW, 212 S. David St.
According to daughter (and jazz vocalist) Charlotte Carruthers, Arnie has recovered from his serious car accident in 2007 and is living at home and playing piano.
He’ll even be playing at his party – but this is more of a casual get-together than a performance. It’s an all-ages event.
‘Oracle of Drums and Dance’
The Make-A-Wish Foundation will have a fundraiser next weekend that does not fit the usual benefit-concert mold.
“The Oracle of Drums and Dance” is a locally produced performance art piece combining dance, poetry and musical rhythms. Performers include drummer Michael Moonbear and dancers from Theater Ballet of Spokane.
The show runs next Sunday, 3 p.m. at the Bing Crosby Theater. Tickets are $20, through TicketsWest.
