Two hospitalized after U.S. 95 accident
An elderly man and a teenage girl were hospitalized after a three-car accident Saturday just south of Sandpoint.
Robert P. Chenault, 84, of Sandpoint, was in stable condition Saturday evening at Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, a spokeswoman said.
Katie C. Caldwell, 16, of Sandpoint, was in serious condition at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, according to the hospital.
The third driver, Susie Jensen, 26, of Sandpoint, received minor injuries, the Idaho State Police said.
Chenault was northbound about 2 p.m. on U.S. Highway 95 in Sagle, and Jensen was southbound passing Caldwell. Chenault crossed the center turn lane and struck Jensen’s Acura sedan, causing her to spin out of control, cross both northbound lanes and go off the highway, police said.
Chenault’s pickup continued into the right southbound lane and struck Caldwell’s Suzuki SUV on the driver’s side, forcing the vehicle off the road.
Traffic was partially blocked for about 90 minutes.
All occupants were wearing seat belts, and airbags deployed in each vehicle.
