Overview: The Vandals enter Week 2 unbeaten for the first time in a decade, but any momentum might be thwarted by an unsightly loss today. Idaho has lost by an average of 39.8 points in its last five encounters with Pac-10 teams, the last being a 70-0 pounding by Arizona last year. Despite being tabbed to finish ninth in the Pac-10, Washington figures to be a formidable foe. The trio of quarterback Jake Locker, tailback Chris Polk and freshman receiver James Johnson had impressive season debuts last week against No. 11 LSU. “I think it’s a big challenge coming up,” UI coach Robb Akey said. “It’s a Pac-10 opponent … that’s got new life with a new coaching staff.” Nevertheless, UW is on a 15-game losing streak, and Idaho hasn’t had this much confidence since midway through 2006 under Dennis Erickson. One matchup to watch is UI quarterback Nathan Enderle vs. the Huskies secondary, which looked vulnerable last week and is unsettled at one of the starting safety spots. A loss by Washington would be a huge step back after the gains made against LSU. It also would give the Huskies full ownership of the longest losing skid in conference history, passing Oregon State teams in 1990-91 and 1995-96. The Huskies’ last victory came on Nov. 17, 2007, against California.
