Roundup: CV hands Prep first GSL loss

Joseph Guerrinha and Luke Torres scored second-half goals Wednesday as Central Valley (7-1, 5-1) handed Gonzaga Prep its first Greater Spokane League boys soccer setback with a 2-0 decision at CV.

Guerrinha took a crossing pass from Jordan Badinger and scored at 43 minutes. Torres beat the Bullpups’ goalkeeper 1-on-1 after a long pass from Lucas Schneidmiller in the final minute.

G-Prep (6-1-1, 4-1) outshot CV 6-3 in a first half played mostly at midfield.

Elsewhere in the GSL, University (6-2, 4-1) led 2-0 after 8 minutes and Zach Allert scored a pair of second-half goals during a 6-0 win over Shadle Park (2-7, 1-4) at Albi Stadium. Matt Bagwell added one goal and one assist for the Titans, who won their fourth consecutive match. … Andreas Andersson and Casey Dunau scored to give Lewis and Clark (5-5, 2-3) a 2-0 win at Mt. Spokane (0-9, 0-6). … Derek Butz had one goal and one assist in the first half to launch Mead (7-2, 5-1) toward a 3-0 win over North Central (4-4-1, 1-4) at Albi Stadium. Mead outshot the Indians 29-4. … Tom Tran had one goal and one assist as East Valley (3-6, 2-3) recorded a 5-1 win at Rogers (2-6, 0-5).

Prep baseball

Matt Lambert scored on Kaleb Dehaas’ one-out, bases-loaded single in the seventh to give host Coeur d’Alene (11-5, 3-1) a 7-6 win over Lake City (6-5, 2-3) in Inland Empire League 5A play. Matt Cade’s two-run single highlighted a three-run fifth as CdA tied the game at 6.

Prep softball

Lindsey Scholwinski pitched a three-hitter and struck out six, and Elli Tindall doubled twice and had a RBI as host Coeur d’Alene (12-2, 2-1) notched a 2-0 win over Lake City (8-3, 3-2) in IEL 5A play.

•Carly Hjelm struck out 12 and Kandace Leliefeld had four RBIs as visiting Deer Park (8-1, 3-1) defeated Medical Lake (0-10, 0-4) 10-0 to open a Great Northern League sweep. Leliefeld, Jessica Talbot and Amanda Duncan were a combined 6 for 11 in the 13-7 second game.

Prep golf

Clarkston’s boys (401) and Colville’s girls (474) won team titles during a Great Northern League match at Deer Park Golf Course. Casey Cox (73) of Colville’s boys and Paige Whidbe (74) of Pullman’s girls were medalists.

Men’s basketball

Seven-foot center Aziz N’diaye told the Twin Falls (Idaho) Times-News that he has selected the University of Washington over Oklahoma.

N’diaye averaged 8.5 points and 7.9 rebounds for College of Southern Idaho as a freshman in 2008-09. He missed his sophomore season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

College track and field

Eastern Washington University’s Kersee Lind won the decathlon and Eastern Oregon’s Kimmy Moore took the heptathlon at the Spokane Multievents at Spokane Falls CC.

Lind finished with 6,560 points to hold off teammate Tim Armstrong (6,145).

Moore scored 4,259 for a 116-point gap on EWU’s Elise Jepsen.

•EWU senior Nicole Luckenbach was named Big Sky Conference field athlete of the week after throwing 199 feet, 2 inches at last Saturday’s War 3 meet at Spokane Falls CC to break her school record in the women’s hammer.

Idaho’s Jeremy Klas and Gabby Midles were named Western Athletic Conference field athletes of the week for their efforts at the War 3 meet. Klas cleared a WAC-best 16-83/4 to win the men’s pole vault. Midles threw a personal-best 187-11 in the women’s hammer.
