In brief: COP shop plans shred day
SHADLE – C.O.P.S. Northwest will hold a shred day at Shadle Center, Wellesley Avenue and Belt Street, next Friday, from noon to 3 p.m.
United Data Security will provide the shredding services to help protect the community’s identity.

Kids festival at Cannon Park
WEST CENTRAL – On Saturday, the West Central Neighbor Day Festival for Kids will be at A.M. Cannon Park, 1603 N. Belt St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Kids can enjoy a bounce castle, a jumpy climbing wall, and arts and crafts. The event will also include food, a DJ, and free bike repair from Pedals2People.
If the weather is unsuitable, the carnival will be moved to the West Central Community Center.
The event is sponsored by the West Spokane Kiwanis, North Central High School, and the West Central Community Center.
Battery recycling Saturday
RIVERSIDE – AAA will collect used lead-acid batteries, including auto, boat, motorcycle, and riding lawnmower batteries, for recycling on Saturday in honor of Earth Day.
AAA will also donate an evergreen tree to the Mountains to Sound Greenway along Interstate 90 for every battery collected.
Batteries will be collected for free at the downtown AAA, 1717 W. Fourth Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
