Making a lawsuit disappear

Copperfield
From Wire Reports

A woman who accused David Copperfield of luring her to his private island in the Bahamas and raping her has dropped her federal suit against the magician.

Model and waitress Lacey Carroll announced her decision Tuesday, days after a federal judge ruled that Copperfield’s attorneys – who called the lawsuit an extortion attempt – could question her under oath.

“It has never been about money,” Carroll said. “I just wanted him held accountable for what he did.”

She said Copperfield pulled her out of the crowd during a show in Kennewick, then invited her to visit his island in 2007.

The trip was supposed to lead to possible modeling gigs, she said, but Copperfield forced her to perform sex acts instead.

Federal authorities spent more than two years investigating the case but didn’t file charges.

Carroll has pleaded not guilty to fabricating sexual assault claims against another man.
