Auntie’s ‘microcosm’ opening

Auntie’s at the Square, the new branch of Auntie’s Bookstore on the skywalk level of River Park Square, opened Tuesday and is planning several grand opening events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Patrick J. McManus will do a signing on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by Jess Walter at 4 p.m. Both are well-known Spokane writers.

On all three days, the store will offer 20 percent discounts and will hold a series of drawings for merchandise and a free trip. Nick Reeves will perform live music Friday at 4 p.m.

The new store is about one-fifth the size of the original Auntie’s. Manager Melissa Opel called it “a microcosm” of the big store, with all of the major categories of books.
