He knows how to play ready golf
Golf: Jeff Overton pumped his fist Sunday and broke into a wide smile when he finished the PGA Championship.
Playing alone in the first group of the day when ailing Ian Poulter withdrew, Overton walked 18 holes at Whistling Straits in 2 hours, 9 minutes, to break the PGA Championship record for quickest round.
“Awesome! My first record at a major,” Overton said.
It beat the previous mark – by one minute – set by Phil Blackmaar at Crooked Stick in 1991.
The record is not official, of course. But the information came from Kerry Haigh, the championship director for the PGA of America.
Overton opened with a bogey, took double bogey on the fourth and figured there wasn’t much left for him to do but finish.
“I gave it my best, especially early,” he said. “I got some bad breaks, and the next thing I know I said, ‘Let’s go ahead and get this round over with.’ ”

Unsportsmanlike language
Football: Unfortunately for the officials, it was open mic night at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
After the Steelers scored their first touchdown Saturday in a 23-7 exhibition victory over the Lions, referee Jeff Triplette’s field microphone picked up expletives uttered by him or one of his crew members apparently aimed at the replay official.
Unhappy that a review of quarterback Dennis Dixon’s 5-yard run was ordered during a heavy rainstorm, an official was clearly heard saying, “It’s raining like this, I’ll kick his …” followed by several expletives.
The official then added, “He’s trying to get to the Super Bowl already.”
The call was overturned.

Huskies lose freshman RB
Football: The Washington Huskies got the worst news possible Sunday on freshman running back Deontae Cooper, learning that he tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in practice Saturday night and will be out for the rest of the season.
A true freshman from Perris, Calif., Cooper will be able to redshirt the season and still have four years of eligibility remaining
The 6-foot, 193-pounder was one of the more highly touted members of UW’s recruiting class after rushing for 7,450 yards and 107 touchdowns during his prep career.
