Pirates win pair
David Riley and Jack Loofburrow combined for nine 3-pointers and 40 points and the Whitworth men rolled to their 17th consecutive win, 87-68 over Pacific (6-14, 2-9) in Northwest Conference action Friday in Forest Grove, Ore.
The Pirates (18-2, 11-0) shot 52.5 percent from the floor, leading by as many as 13 at the end of the first half and entering the break on a 17-6 scoring run.
Loofburrow took over in the second half, hitting four of his career-high five 3-pointers and tallying 17 points off the bench.
Women’s basketball
Cassie Pilkinton had 16 points and Whitworth (11-9, 7-4) rallied from a 16-point deficit to earn its fifth straight victory, 66-52 over Northwest Conference foe Pacific (6-12, 3-8) in Forest Grove, Ore.
With the deficit at 16 in the first half, Pirates freshmen Lauren Picha and Emily Travis combined to score 12 points to cut the Boxers’ lead to 29-25 by halftime. The second half was all Pirates as they shot 52 percent from the floor and 5 of 10 from 3-point range while building a 19-point lead with 6:33 remaining. Julianne Erbe led the Boxers with 17 points and eight rebounds but was the only player in double figures for Pacific.
