In brief: OutSpokane to host ‘Date’ auction

Spokane – OutSpokane will host “Date With a Straight: A Night OUT with Our Allies,” Friday and Saturday.

The event will begin with a live-person auction at Irv’s Bar, 415 W. Sprague Ave., Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. The event is for those 21 and older and admission will be $3.

The evening will include door prizes and winning bidders will have “dates” Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort Wright Drive, at the giant drum corps annual Valentine’s Ball.

Tickets for the ball are $10 at the door and anyone 18 and older may attend.

The auction will benefit the Spokane Pride Parade and Festival which will be June 12.

Russian artist’s work on display

CHENEY – Paintings by internationally-known Russian artist Gennady Ugryumov are featured in an art exhibit at the Brewster Hall Gallery, 410 Second St. in Cheney through Feb. 27.

The theme of the artist’s post-impressionist, oil on canvas landscapes focuses on the middle Columbia River and Plateau region of Eastern Washington. The exhibit includes a three-section mural called, “The Children of the Big River: Past, Present and Future.”

Teen bands sought for 2010 BOBfest

SPOKANE COUNTY – The Chase Youth Commission, Hoffman Music, College Road Recording and the YMCA are looking for area teen bands for BOBfest 2010. Twelve bands of all musical genres are needed to for the in the Battle of the Bands competition, which will take place June 12 in Riverfront Park.

BOBfest is an opportunity for Spokane to help launch local teen musicians toward a musical career. Selected groups have an opportunity to participate in a Musicians’ Clinic, record their own original song in a professional recording studio at College Road Recording, and perform live in Riverfront Park with a professional backline and road crew. The winning BOBfest band will receive paid performance sessions, CD production and Hoffman Music gift certificates.

Applications are available at Hoffman Music, 1430 N. Monroe St., or can be downloaded at www.chaseyouth.org. Applications, along with demos and song lyrics, are due to Hoffman Music by 4 p.m. Feb. 19.
