WSU names interim A.D.
Colleges: In anticipation of San Diego State naming Washington State athletic director Jim Sterk its new A.D., WSU President Elson S. Floyd announced Anne McCoy (pictured above) will act as interim athletic director. She is WSU’s Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator.
“We appreciate the contributions that Jim Sterk has made to WSU during his tenure as athletic director. Jim has done great things at WSU, and our athletic programs are stronger because of his leadership,” Floyd said in part in a press release.
“Early next week I will meet with the Athletic Department staff to update them on our direction going forward,” said Floyd. “On Wednesday I will announce the composition of a search advisory committee to assist in the search for our next athletic director. I expect to identify a successful candidate within the next month.”
Area schools show off spirit
As the high school basketball season winds down, the annual spirit games crank up for heated competition between schools. Students, teachers and staff from each school try to outperform each other in the Spokane Arena.
Photographer Dan Pelle captured scenes from three area spirit games and put together an audio slideshow that can be viewed online at spokesman.com/video.

U.S. Open going prime time
Golf: The U.S. Open is planning for another prime time finish this year.
Mike Davis, the senior director of rules and competition for the USGA, said Saturday evening that the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach will be televised until 11 p.m. EDT on Saturday, with a 7 p.m. finish for the final round.

The U.S. Open returns to Pebble Beach for the fifth time on June 17-20.
