Highlanders foil upset bid

Robby Douglas scored nine of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter and hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 2 minutes, 25 seconds to help the top-seeded Shadle Park Highlanders (17-4) escape a huge upset bid by the fourth-seeded East Valley Knights (3-18) with a 47-44 victory in a District 8 3A boys basketball game on Wednesday night at Shadle Park.

Taylor Pettersen added 11 points for Shadle Park, which trailed 24-21 at the half and 33-32 heading into the final period.

Korie Sherman led the Knights with 14 points. His 3-point attempt in the waning seconds rolled around and out with a chance to tie the game.

The Highlanders will host North Central at 7:15 tonight to decide the top two seeds to the regional tournament.

East Valley travels to Rogers at 7:15 tonight to decide the third and fourth seeds to regionals.

North Central 67, Rogers 60: Ed Richardson totaled 18 points and eight rebounds and Lucas Evans added 13 points and nine rebounds to propel the second-seeded Indians (12-9) past the No. 3-seeded Pirates (10-11) at NC.

Therone Tillett notched a game-high 21 points for Rogers, while Deavon Daniels scored 16.

District 7 2B

Davenport 40, Northwest Christian 39: Joey Gunning scored 11 points and Morgan Scharff grabbed a key rebound off a missed free throw in the final minute to help the Gorillas (19-6) stun the Crusaders (20-4) at Mead High School.

Davenport ended a 12-game losing streak to the Crusaders, including three losses this season.

The Gorillas advance to play Colfax for the top seed to state on Feb. 25.

Northwest Christian will play Lind-Ritzville in a loser-out game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane HS.

Colfax 72, St. George’s 50: Caleb Bravard totaled 15 points and the Bulldogs (17-7) turned a close game against the Dragons (18-6) into a romp by hitting five 3-pointers in the second period en route to a 36-22 lead at the half.

Jordan Dickson led all scorers with 18 points for the Dragons.

St. George’s will play Reardan at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane HS in a loser-out game.

Lind-Ritzville 83, Springdale 48: The Broncos (17-8) buried 11 3-pointers, including three each from Bryce Hilzer and Jake Eichner, en route to a victory over the Chargers (12-12) in a loser-out game at Mead HS.

James Stevenson finished with 19 points and six rebounds, Hilzer added 18 points and eight boards and Eichner scored 11 for the Broncos, who jumped out to a 12-0 lead and coasted from there.

Rodney Abrahamson topped Springdale with 12 points.

Reardan 56, Selkirk 30: Trever Peone netted a game-high 18 points, while Grant Schultz and Jake Hight scored 13 and 10, respectively, to carry the Indians (12-12) to a loser-out win over the Rangers (13-11) at Mead HS.

Hunter Enyeart had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Selkirk, which trailed 19-6 after one quarter and 35-9 at halftime.

District 7 1B

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 63, Inchelium 49: Cody Jess and Derek Isaak tossed in 18 points apiece and Cody Dillon scored 11 to power the Warriors to a victory over the Hornets in a loser-out game at Deer Park.

ACH led 22-9 at the end of the first quarter and held tough after the Hornets pulled within five points in the third quarter.

Chad Rosenbaum had a game-high 20 points for Inchelium, while Tony Louie added 17 points.

The Warriors advance to play Odessa in a loser-out game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Deer Park. The winner advances to state as the No. 3 seed.

Odessa 47, Wilbur-Creston 30: Kramer Schutz tallied a game-high 16 points and the Tigers shut out the Wildcats in the first quarter en route to a victory in Deer Park.

Aaron Bruya and Jared King added 10 points each for the Tigers, who never trailed in the game and led 9-0 at the end of the first period.

Hayden Herdrick topped the Wildcats with eight points.

Idaho 2A District I-II

Coeur d’Alene Charter 56, Grangeville 46: Bob Schrack finished with a double-double – 14 points, 17 rebounds – and Garrett Hallett scored a career-high 14 to lead the Panthers (13-8) past the Bulldogs (4-14) in Lewiston.

The Panthers move on to play top-seeded Kamiah at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Lewiston.

The Bulldogs await the loser of the Kamiah-CdA Charter game for a Monday loser-out game in either Lewiston or Kamiah.

Girls

3A District 8

Shadle Park 61, Mt. Spokane 43: Aleisha Hathaway had a double-double – 11 points, 10 rebounds – Kendra Knutsen scored 11 with seven rebounds and Chelsea Chandler scored 12 to power the top-seeded Highlanders (13-8) past the visiting Wildcats (4-17).

Shadle will host No. 2 seed North Central at 5:30 tonight to decide the top two berths to regionals.

Mt. Spokane, which was led by Kennadie Clute’s 18 points, will play at third-seeded East Valley at 5:30 tonight to decide the third and fourth regional berths.

North Central 53, East Valley 39: Riley Holsinger totaled 19 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots to guide the Indians (12-9) past the visiting Knights (6-15).

Tara Van Weerdhuizen finished with seven points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots for NC.

Jenni White scored a game-high 20 for EV.

District 9 2B

Tekoa-Oakesdale 50, Waitsburg-Prescott 29: Alexandria Overton piled up 25 points and 15 rebounds and the Nighthawks (11-10) rolled to a victory over the visiting Cardinals.

Desiree’ Chappell added 10 points for T-O, which advances to play Liberty Christian at 6 p.m. Monday at Whitman College.

Waitsburg-Prescott will play a loser-out game against Garfield-Palouse at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Colfax.

Liberty Christian 47, Garfield-Palouse 26: Kelsey Harding scored 15 and the Patriots held the visiting Vikings (5-16) to one point in the second quarter en route to the victory.

Kacie Adair topped Gar-Pal with 11 points.

Asotin 73, Dayton 40: The Panthers (14-7) jumped out to an 18-2 lead through one quarter and breezed to a win over the Bulldogs.

Asotin will play Pomeroy, a 40-32 victor over Dayton, at 3 p.m. Monday at Whitman College.

Dayton will play a loser-out game against DeSales at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Colfax.

District 7 1B

Curlew 49, Sprague-Harrington 33: Larissa Miller poured in a game-high 20 points, hitting 12 of 14 free-throw attempts along the way, to power the Cougars (11-12) to a victory over the Falcons (8-15) in Deer Park.

Sabrina Charlson added 11 rebounds for the Cougars, who advance to play either Cusick or Wellpinit in a loser-out game, with the winner heading to state as the No. 3 seed.
