Speaker among Spokane’s first black firefighters
A Martin Luther King Jr. Day events listing in Tuesday’s newspaper should have identified Rod Holmes, the featured speaker at a Jan. 20 luncheon, as among the first black firefighters hired by the city of Spokane. Lawrence Goncalves was three months before Holmes, in 1972.
