Boys basketball: Cheney rolls to win

DeAngelo Jones led three Cheney (6-3, 2-1) players in double figures with 19 points and Riverside (2-6, 0-3) struggled to keep up with the press, falling behind 38-28 at the half and then scoring just two points in the third quarter to fall 65-41 in GNL play Tuesday in Riverside.

Dalton Harding added 13 assists for the Blackhawks.

Northeast A

Chewelah 56, Newport 46: Josh Christian scored eight of the Cougars’ (9-5, 1-1) 17 points in the third quarter, finishing with 20 to lead them to a victory over the Grizzlies (4-9, 1-2) in Chewelah. Dallas Garner added 19 points and Gene Schatz hauled in 13 rebounds.

Freeman 53, Lakeside 39: Jared Hinch scored all 12 of his points in the second half and the Scotties (10-3, 3-0) expanded their lead over the visiting Eagles (6-7, 2-1) from one at the half to 14 by game’s end by shooting 75 percent in the second half at the HUB Sports Center.

Bi-County

Reardan 50, Valley Christian 22: Grant Schultz poured in 13 of his 20 points in the second half for the Indians (7-5, 3-3), who held the Panthers (1-11, 0-5) to 9-of-49 shooting and forced 25 turnovers at Valley Christian.

Lind-Ritzville 76, Liberty 52: The Broncos (9-3, 4-2) used an effective press to jump out to an early 27-9 first-quarter lead to beat the visiting Lancers (3-9, 0-5). James Stevenson scored 26 points with six steals to lead the Broncos, with Jake Eichner adding 16 points.

Northwest Christian 73, Davenport 58: Cole Ramey erupted for 34 points on 16-of-18 shooting and the Crusaders (10-2, 6-0) outrebounded the Gorillas (10-2, 4-2) 41-18 to hold onto sole possession of the league in Davenport.

District 9 1B

Rosalia 68, LaCrosse-Washtucna 28: The Spartans (14-0, 5-0) jumped out to a 22-3 lead after one quarter against the visiting Tigercats (6-7, 2-3), finishing with 10 players adding to the scoring effort, led by 17 from Nathan Richards.

Northport 62, Republic 56: Philip Johnson scored a game-high 17 points and the Mustangs (2-9, 1-7) broke their winless streak in league play despite allowing 24 fourth-quarter points to the Tigers (7-4, 3-4) in Republic.

St. George’s 70, St. Michael’s 28: Jordan Dickson notched all 13 of his points in the first quarter in which the Dragons (10-4, 6-2) jumped out to a 27-7 lead over the Warriors (2-7, 2-6) at St. George’s.

Lake City 68, Post Falls 57: J.J. Stoddard scored 17 of his 24 points – including four 3-pointers – in the third quarter to help lift the Timberwolves (7-4, 1-1) to a victory over the Trojans (11-2, 0-1) in Coeur d’Alene.

Caribou Trail

Lake Roosevelt 61, Tonasket 39: Jake Fury scored 10 of his 14 points in the first quarter and the Raiders (6-5, 3-2) built a 13-point lead at the half to beat the Tigers (2-9, 0-5) at Coulee Dam.

Inchelium 68, Kettle Falls 54: Tony Louie scored 20 points, Brandon Kohler added 13 as the Hornets (7-4) built a nine-point lead by halftime to beat the Bulldogs (1-10) in Kettle Falls.
