Hockey unnoticed

The Spokesman-Review

Kudos to the sports editor for finally mentioning something about the hockey program at EWU (Jan. 12).

I’m wondering how many Spokane-area hockey fans are aware of the state of the art ice rink/rec center on the EWU campus? It’s arguably the finest playing surface on the West Coast and houses a highly successful college team in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Western Division. The team is currently ranked third and boasts a 13-4-1-1 record this year. There are several local area players on the team, which has students coming from all over the west and Canada to play and attend EWU.

After seeing Tyler Johnson, a Spokane native, participate in the gold-medal game for the winning U.S. team in the World Junior championship, I think some exposure to the program at Eastern is long overdue.
