Bowman shares weekly honor

A record-setting week has led to another honor for Heather Bowman.

The Gonzaga University senior women’s basketball star from Lewis and Clark High averaged 18 points and six rebounds last week and has been named co-player of the week by the West Coast Conference, sharing the award with Peppderdine’s Miranda Ayim. Bowman’s 21-point game against San Diego on Saturday gave her the West Coast Conference career scoring record, raising her total to 1,956 points.

It’s the fourth time this season a Gonzaga player has won the award – twice for Bowman and once each for Courtney Vandersloot and Vivian Frieson.

•University of Washington senior forward Quincy Pondexter was named the Pac-10 men’s basketball player of the week after averaging 26 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Huskies soundly defeated Stanford and California.

Girls basketball

Freeman 53, Ellensburg 50 (OT): Korina Baker made two free throws to tie the game at the end of regulation and two more in the final seconds of overtime as the Scotties defeated the Spartans at the SunDome Showdown in Yakima. Baker scored 18 points to lead Freeman (14-1). Megan McIntyre added 10 points and MacKenzie Taylor had 11 rebounds.

Granger 45, Lake Roosevelt 25: The Red Raiders started strong, leading 12-9 after the first quarter but were held to 13 points the rest of the way in a loss at the SunDome Showdown. Moyatat Bell-Bart led Lake Roosevelt with 11 points.

Boys basketball

Granger 57, Freeman 46: Granger’s 12-2 run in the first half helped the Spartans take a five-point lead at halftime and the Scotties fell further behind with a five-point third quarter at the SunDome Showdown. Jared Hinch and Pete Heinen scored 10 points each to lead Freeman.
