In brief: Jacklin Arts Center plans events

POST FALLS – The Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center, 405 N. William St., has a busy schedule of upcoming events.

•An Italian cooking class will be offered on Thursday, featuring Angelo Brunson of Angelo’s Ristorante in Coeur d’Alene, as part of Jacklin’s Good Friends, Good Food, Good Times cooking class series.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m., participants can learn how to make five different sauces.Cost for the class is $50 per person.

•On Feb. 6, the Jacklin Center will hold a Precious metals clay workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Everett Headrick.

The class costs $100. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required.

•As part of its Valentine’s Day concert, “A Tribute to Judy Garland,” the Jacklin center will feature dinner at Rosa’s Italian Market and Deli, 120 E. Fourth Ave. in Post Falls, on Feb. 14.

The Italian meal at 5 p.m. will include Fire Roasted Tomato Ancho Soup, Caesar Salad, Penne al a Vodka, toasted garlic bread, Red Velvet Sweetheart Cupcakes and iced tea, Italian coffee and San Pellegrino water.

Dinner is $24.95 per person and reservations are required by Feb. 10.

Tickets to the concert are $20 per person.

Pro-life group to open new office

PRIEST RIVER – The Sandpoint Life Choices Pregnancy Center will open a satellite office on Feb. 1 at 113 Washington St., behind Priest River Community Church Thrift Store. An open house and dedication will be Feb. 7 from noon to 2 p.m.

The center will provide free pregnancy tests, education on all options, and ongoing support for the entire family. The center also provides new and gently used maternity and baby clothing and furnishings for younger families, through an Earn as You Learn incentive program.

Life Choices Pregnancy Center is a volunteer, nonprofit pro-life organization. It is funded through the contributions of individuals, local businesses and more than 30 area churches.

Scrap metal recycling offered

COEUR D’ALENE – Black Diamond Services, 7672 N. Atlas Road in Coeur d’Alene, is participating in Recycling Hope a recycling service to area residents to benefit the Children’s Village in Coeur d’Alene.

Black Diamond will pick up, cut up and recycle scrap metals, including copper, aluminum, lead pipes, steel from auto parts, framing, farm equipment, beams and rebar.

Metal donations are tax deductible.

Screenings offered at heart center

COEUR D’ALENE – Kootenai Health Heart Center, 2003 Lincoln Way, will offer Heart to Heart screenings from 7:30 to 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in February.

The 15-minute screenings will provide an on-the-spot lipid profile, which will determine total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose level. The screenings also will measure blood pressure and body-mass index, which can be indicators of heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Cost is $15 for new clients and $20 for returning clients. Reservations are required.

Banquet, auction to benefit Habitat

HAYDEN – Tickets are now on sale for Habitat for Humanity North Idaho’s first Hearts for Homes banquet and silent auction, to be held on Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Inn, 506 W, Appleway Ave.

The event is Habitat North Idaho’s first fundraiser. Proceeds will help fund Habitat projects that support families in need in Kootenai County.
