The Texas Rangers agreed to terms Wednesday with both of their first-round draft picks and assigned them to the Arizona League.

Outfielder Jake Skole was picked 15th overall and catcher Kellin Deglan was chosen 22nd in the first round Monday night.

Skole signed for $1.557 million and Deglan for $1 million. Texas general manager Jon Daniels said it’s possible both 18-year-olds could play for the short-season A Spokane Indians later this summer.

Six of the Rangers’ first seven picks were high-schoolers. The exception is third baseman Mike Olt, picked 49th overall, who holds Connecticut’s career homer record.

Texas will soon assign players to Spokane for the Northwest League season, which begins June 18 at home against Tri-City. The Indians begin a three-day minicamp at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Avista Stadium.

•The Seattle Mariners emphasized pitching throughout the draft.

Seattle ended selections by using 30 of its 50 total picks on pitchers.

Final-day picks included University of Washington junior pitcher Forrest Snow in the 36th round and Cal State Fullerton catcher Billy Marcoe (Eastside Catholic High in Bellevue) in the 41st round.

•The Tampa Bay Rays selected Central Valley High right-hander Scott Simon in the 33rd round. Simon has signed with Washington State.

•The Chicago Cubs selected Coeur d’Alene High catcher Devon Austin in the 45th round. Austin has signed with New Mexico State.

•WSU seniors Michael Weber and Seth Harvey were selected in the 37th round. Weber, an infielder, went to Arizona. Milwaukee took Harvey, a pitcher.

•First baseman Pat Murray, selected by Philadelphia in the 34th round, and pitcher Stephen Foster, selected by Atlanta in the 39th round, gave Lewis-Clark State seven players chosen in the draft.
