Countdown begins now for revised resolutions

You have just nine days to decide on your Second Half of the Year Resolutions.

Good luck. Aim high.

Just wondering: What tribe not represented by a street name off Indian Trail really should be?

To the gentleman who called about there being an Inland Empire in Southern California: Thanks. We’ve been over that.

But did you know that, in terms of longitude, Spokane is west of San Bernardino?

If that’s not right, I trust that one of the 3,156 retired Air Force navigators in our area will correct me.

Some newcomers: Apparently don’t grasp the gentle topographical implications of the word “valley,” because they initially expect Spokane Valley to look more like Spokane Canyon.

“And if you stand here by the edge, you can see down to retail operations dating to the Jurassic era.”

Today’s Slice question: So these two women met while volunteering for Spokane Public Radio. They discovered that they lived in the same apartment complex.

One of the women was about to go out of town. So she asked the other if this new acquaintance would feed her cats while away.

Before the cat owner left for her trip, the other woman went over to the apartment to get the lay of the land.

The prospective pet sitter noticed that one of the cats was rotund. But when the owner demonstrated how much dinner that animal was to be given, she spooned up a pathetically paltry ration of dry food. There was no mention of this being part of a weight-loss regimen. Just, “This is what he gets.”

Well, a few days later, when it came time for the pet sitter to actually serve this puny portion, the plus-size feline looked up at her as if to say “Surely, you jest” or perhaps some more emphatically disapproving expression.

The visiting cat-feeder could not help but suspect that she had been set up to be head counselor at Feline Diet Camp. And at least one furry camper was definitely not happy.

What’s your most memorable pet-sitting story?
