Cal claims outright crown

Patrick Christopher scored 23 points Saturday to help California win the outright Pac-10 title with a 71-61 win over Stanford at Stanford, Calif.

Jamal Boykin added 13 points for the Golden Bears (21-9, 13-5), who swept the season series from their Bay Area rivals for the first time since 1992-93 by winning at Maples Pavilion for just the second time in 17 trips.

Landry Fields had 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead Stanford (13-17, 7-11).

Cal clinched at least a share of its first conference title in 50 years and the top seed in the Pac-10 tournament by beating Arizona State last weekend in a game capped by a raucous net-cutting celebration at Haas Pavilion.

Arizona State 56, UCLA 46: Eric Boateng had 16 points, a career-high 14 rebounds and a career-best four blocked shots as the Sun Devils (22-9, 12-6) secured a wire-to-wire win over the Bruins (13-17, 8-10) at Tempe, Ariz.

Arizona 86, Southern California 84 (2 OT): Guard Nic Wise scored 15 points, including the winning layup with 1.5 seconds left, as the Wildcats (16-14, 10-8) defeated the Trojans (16-14, 8-10) at Tucson, Ariz.

Wise went through traffic to make the winning shot off the backboard. USC’s Donte Smith missed a tying shot at the buzzer.
