In brief: Really Big Raffle tickets on sale

COEUR d’ALENE – Tickets to the North Idaho College Foundation’s Really BIG Raffle are now on sale.

The 17th annual fundraiser supports student and program needs at NIC.

Prizes include a $265,000 home; a car valued at $20,000; a $10,000 boat; a $3,500 vacation package; and a $2,000 shopping spree. Tickets purchased on or before May 31 may qualify for early-bird prizes, including a $500 grocery card and a bed-and-breakfast getaway.

The grand-prize house is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with granite kitchen countertops, a gas fireplace, heat pump, master retreat with jetted tub, covered front porch and a full landscaping package with stone paver patio at 2880 Marceille Drive in Greenstone’s Coeur d’Alene Place neighborhood.

Only 5,000 tickets will be sold before the drawing on July 14. Ticket holders do not need to be present to win. Tickets are $100 each.

Tree care lessons held on Saturdays

HAYDEN – The city of Hayden will hold tree care workshops on Saturdays in March at the Hayden Library, 8385 N. Government Way in Hayden Lake, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

On Saturday, community members can learn about tree planting. A tree maintenance workshop will be held on March 20. And, on March 27, participants can learn about tree irrigation.

The workshops are free and open to all residents.

Comments sought on trail proposal

PONDERAY – The Friends of the Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail will give the public two opportunities on Wednesday to view the latest concept map for the proposed 2-mile Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail.

The group has been working with the cities of Sandpoint, Ponderay, Kootenai, Bonner County, the National Park Service, Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, local property owners and other interested parties to develop a plan for the proposed trail corridor that could link the communities and provide public waterfront access.

Community members can visit Ponderay City Hall, 288 Fourth Ave., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Idaho Conservation League office, second floor, Sandpoint Events Center, 102 Euclid Ave., from 5 to 7 p.m., to view the map and share their input for the trail proposal.

Comedian to perform Wednesday at NIC

COEUR D’ALENE – Comedian Sabrina Jalees will perform in the Activities Center in the Edminster Student Union Building at North Idaho College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Jalees began her comedic career at the age of 16 during amateur night at a comedy club in Canada. She has appeared on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” Jalees is the host of CBC Radio’s Laugh Out Loud with Sabrina Jalees and was the Toronto Star’s weekly humor columnist for three years before moving to New York City in 2009.

Documentary on fur trader Thursday

BONNERS FERRY – The Boundary County Historical Society will present “Shadows of David Thompson,” a film by George Sibley, on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Boundary County Community Events Center in the Boundary County Museum, 7229 Main St. in Bonners Ferry.

Sibley’s documentary about Thompson recalls how the western fur trader helped mark the boundary between the United States and Canada. Thompson traveled through Bonners Ferry a number of times.

Sibley, a filmmaker for more than 40 years, will be on hand to introduce the film and answer questions.
