Two Coug players honored

Washington State Cougars sophomore guard April Cook and freshman guard KiKi Moore earned Pacific-10 Conference women’s basketball honors in a polling of conference coaches, commissioner Larry Scott announced Wednesday.

Cook was named All-Pac-10 honorable mention for the second year in a row. Moore was named to the All-Freshman first team and received honorable mention for the All-Defense team.

Baseball

The Gonzaga Bulldogs put on quite a power display in Lubbock, Texas.

Royce Bolinger, Mark Castellitto, Drew Heid and Andy Hunter each homered twice to propel Gonzaga (5-5) to a 13-9 nonconference victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders (8-6).

Tyler Olson (1-0) earned the win, allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out three in five innings of work. Jeremy Stumetz notched his first save of the season with 22/3 shutout innings. He gave up two hits and fanned a pair.

Castellitto, Bolinger and Clayton Eslick each had three of the Bulldogs’ 16 hits on the day.

Women’s golf

The Idaho Vandals finished ninth and the Washington State Cougars placed 15th in the 18-team UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational in Boulder, Colo.

Vandals sophomore Kayla Mortellaro, who led after the first two rounds, shot a final-round 3-over-par 75 to close with a 3-under 213 and second-place finish. Idaho’s team total was 898.

Kristen Allard paced the Cougars with a 6-over 222, tying her for 17th place. WSU finished with a 934 total.

UNLV won the team competition with an 866, 12 strokes in front of runner-up Texas. UNLV’s Therese Koelbaek was the medalist with a 6-under 210.
