In brief: Group seeks fundraising assistance

From Local Reports

SPOKANE – The Spokane Parks Foundation is looking for individuals, groups, businesses and other organizations interested in helping out with fundraising to cover swim fees for children in low-income families.

Children will have to pay to swim in city pools this summer, and some may not be able to afford the $1 ticket.

The Make a Splash in a Kid’s Life committee is co-chaired by Brenda Corbett and Jennifer Westfall and it meets the second Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the Lindaman Center, 315 W. Mission Ave.

“At the first meeting we didn’t have quite as many people as we’d hoped for,” said Corbett, “but we had a good group, and we divided up the labor the best we could.”

Grant writing and fundraising are top priorities.

“We talked about perhaps having a movie night at a park as a fundraiser,” said Corbett. “Everyone’s homework for the next meeting is to come up with a fundraising idea.”
