Huskies edged in WBI

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Trailing by 13 points with 6:38 left, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi used a 16-2 run to end the game for a 59-58 win over Washington in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational on Sunday.

Jade Davis hit a layin with 12.1 seconds left to give the Islanders (24-10) the lead. The Huskies (13-18) got off a pair of shots in the final 12 seconds but missed both.

Kristi Kingma led Washington with 14 points, and Mollie Williams added 11 with six rebounds.

Davis scored 17 points to lead the Islanders, who earned their first win over a Pac-10 opponent despite shooting 29.5 percent from the field.

The Huskies were outrebounded 27-18 and were 15 of 25 from the free-throw line. The Islanders hit 31 of 40 from the line.
