Community answers call to Make A Splash

Thank you for the great story on the Make A Splash campaign, providing swim fees for low-income children countywide (Voices, May 20).

Regarding businesses, my concern was no one was talking to companies about donations. Since then, two committee members have been actively calling on businesses, receiving a good response and hope donations follow.

In addition to the Lions’ wonderful $500 challenge, Sterling Savings employees are holding an internal fundraiser. The Logan Neighborhood has included the campaign in their summer fundraiser, donating 75 percent of the profits to the Make A Splash campaign and 25 percent to a fund for a sign in their neighborhood.

KHQ-TV’s “Success By Six” will run a two-week schedule this July and American West Bank will be actively involved with their donation collection. Spokane Valley Partners has stepped up their involvement, expanding the ability to distribute swim passes. Several politicians have agreed to “Make A Splash for Kids” by going in a dunk tank this summer. Brenda Corbett and Jennifer Westfall, co-chairs, welcome all community involvement!

To be contacted about underwriting, or to hold a fundraising event for swim fees for low-income children countywide, e-mail the foundation at office@spokaneparks foundation.org It will be forwarded to the proper committee members.

Again, thank you for Pia Hallenberg’s continued coverage. It has helped the committee and fundraising grow.
