New pastor – St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., will install Kathryn LePard as its new pastor Sunday during the 10:45 a.m. worship service.

 Bishop Martin Wells will officiate. A reception at 9:30 a.m. will include a continental breakfast.

Benefit fundraiser – Members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will be at Barnes & Noble at NorthTown Mall today from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

 Ten percent of the day’s proceeds will benefit church ministries. There will also be information about the church’s Vacation Bible School this summer.

‘Concert for Life’ – Mt. Spokane Church, 6311 E. Mt. Spokane Park Drive, Mead, will present the Good News Brothers, a “Concert for Life – Christians with Cancer Giving to Others” on June 6.

 The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. with activities including helicopter rides, food and music. Author Cindy Scinto will sign and speak about her book, “A Heart Like Mine.” The concert begins at 6 p.m.

 Admission is free; donations will be accepted (suggested $10 donation for helicopter rides). Proceeds will be used to send underprivileged children to the Union Gospel Mission Summer Camp.

God and war – St. Joseph Parish, 3720 E. Colbert Road, Colbert, will explore spiritual challenges faced by military veterans as they transition home in a program Thursday at 7 p.m.

 Marian Beaumier, director of ACT Ministries, which helps faith communities deal with mental health issues, will lead the session.

12-step retreat – Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Road, will hold its semiannual Serenity Retreat, Friday through June 6.

 The retreat, with the Rev. Tom Weston, S.J., is titled “The Drinking Has Stopped: Now What Happens?” and will focus on the 12 steps of recovery.
