In brief: Cemetery plans Monday service

POST FALLS – Memorial Day service will be held on Monday at the Evergreen Cemetery, 2834 N. Spokane St., at 11 a.m.

Post Falls American Legion No. 143 will conduct the services and will feature State Senator Jim Hammond and Mayor Clay Larkin.

The public is invited to attend.

Museum exhibit features schools

PRIEST LAKE – The Priest Lake Museum, 38 Priest Lake Museum Road, opened Saturday, with a new exhibit depicting early schools in the Priest Lake area.

The exhibit includes parts of the museum turned into a 1930s-era classroom with desks, bookshelves, chalkboards, books and other learning materials used in the early 1900s, with photographs of the Nordman, Lamb Creek and Coolin school buildings and students.

Other exhibits and collections on display in the museum are historic Native American exhibits; mining displays; logging displays; early settlers and business exhibits; an exhibit by the Civilian Conservation Corps and the U.S. Forest Service and wildlife displays.

NIC graduation available on DVD

COEUR D’ALENE – The North Idaho College commencement ceremony is now available on DVD and photos of the ceremony, processional and group shots can be downloaded at NIC’s Flickr website at www.flickr.com/photos/ northidahocollege/.

The ceremony will be rebroadcast at 6 a.m. on Monday and Friday; noon and 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; and at 9 a.m. Wednesday and on June 9.

Early deadline Monday for raffle

COEUR D’ALENE – Monday is the early bird deadline for tickets to the North Idaho College Foundation’s Really BIG Raffle. The 17th annual fundraiser for NIC supports student and program needs at NIC.

Prizes include the $265,000 home; a car valued at $20,000; a $10,000 boat; a $3,500 vacation package; and a $2,000 shopping spree. Tickets purchased on or before May 31 may qualify for early bird prizes, including a $500 grocery card and a bed-and- breakfast getaway.

The grand-prize house is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom craftsman home with granite kitchen counters, a gas fireplace, heat pump, master retreat with jetted tub, covered front porch and a full landscaping package with stone paver patio at 2880 Marceille Drive in Greenstone’s Coeur d’Alene Place neighborhood.

Only 5,000 tickets will be sold before the drawing on July 14. Tickets are $100 each.

NIC golf tourney deadline Tuesday

HAYDEN – The entry deadline for the North Idaho College Scott Hague Memorial Cardinal Classic golf tournament is Tuesday. The tournament will be Friday at the Avondale Golf and Tennis Club. The four-person scramble tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

The event is being held in honor of NIC alumnus and community supporter Scott Hague who died of cancer in March 2005. Prizes will be awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, low score, first men’s team, first women’s team and first co-ed team as well as the “We’ll Match It” hole sponsored by Panhandle State Bank.

Registration fee is $100 per person or $375 per team and includes an umbrella, golf cart rental and dinner from Outback Steakhouse.

Proceeds benefit NIC athletics through the NIC Booster Club.
