W-C edges Gar-Pal

Jacob Sruve ran in a touchdown and threw for another as Wilbur-Creston (8-3) jumped out to a 14-0 lead and held off host Garfield-Palouse (5-5) 14-12 Friday in their State 1B play-in game to advance to the state tournament.

J.B. Lang and Riley Hodges combined for 205 yards rushing for the Vikings with each scoring a touchdown to bring the Vikings within two. But WC thwarted both two-point attempts to earn the win. W-C finished with 176 rushing yards total on 43 carries.

The Wildcats will play the winner of Odessa-Harrington at Almira/Coulee-Hartline, which will be played today at 6 p.m.

Columbia-Inchelium 22, St. John-Endicott 16: Tyler Zacherle rushed for 159 yards on 10 carries and threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Timberwolves (6-3) rushed for 258 total yards in their win over the host Eagles (7-3).

Leading by eight in the third quarter, C-I forced an Eagle fumble at the Timberwolves’ 5-yard line, then went the length of the field to score the eventual winning TD, a 30-yard scoring run by Dylan Wulff.

The T-Wolves play the winner of Colton and Cusick in the first round of the state tournament, with that game set for today at 1 p.m. at Gonzaga Prep.

State 2B

Colfax 54, Warden 7: Tyler McNannay rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns and Alex Teade threw for 92 yards and a TD, adding two scores on the ground as the Bulldogs (10-0) blew by the Cougars (6-5) in the first round of the state tournament at Martin Stadium in Pullman.

Colfax, led by McNannay, who returned an interception 23 yards for a TD, held the Cougars scoreless through the first half, building a 48-0 halftime edge.

The Bulldogs will play Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in the state quarterfinals Friday at Gonzaga Prep.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 12, Kittitas 0: Jake Eichner ran for 90 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries and the Broncos (8-2) held the Coyotes (7-3) to 105 yards of total offense in Kittitas.

After both teams ended the first half scoreless, LRS broke through in the third quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run from Eichner.

The Broncos returned a fumble 30 yards for their second and final score. They were led on defense by Traven Smith, who tallied 17 tackles and one interception.
