WAC roundup: Boise State wins handily

Kellen Moore was 13 of 18 for 196 yards and three touchdowns, including two scoring passes to tight end Kyle Efaw, and No. 3 Boise State beat lowly New Mexico State 59-0 Saturday night in Las Cruces, N.M.

Doug Martin ran for a 1-yard touchdown and caught a 28-yard TD pass from Moore as the Broncos extended their winning streak to 18 games.

Boise State, guarding against a letdown after victories over Virginia Tech and Oregon State, was the highest-ranked team to visit Las Cruces and sure looked the part.

The Aggies never had a chance, not with the Broncos scoring on their first five possessions and Moore throwing two TD passes by halftime. Boise State got 21 points off three New Mexico State turnovers and led 38-0 at the break.

(25) Nevada 44, UNLV 26: Vai Taua rushed for three touchdowns and caught a pass for a fourth as the Wolf Pack rolled past the intrastate rival Rebels in Las Vegas to win the Battle for the Fremont Cannon.

The Rebels could do little to stop the Wolf Pack’s rushing attack, led by Taua’s 188 yards. Nevada scored five touchdowns on the ground on 374 total rushing yards – and never punted.

Taua’s scores came on rushes of 2, 3 and 72 yards, along with a 22-yard swing pass from quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

UC Davis 14, San Jose State 13: Redshirt freshman Randy Wright threw for 223 yards and a touchdown and the Aggies came from behind to knock off the Spartans in San Jose, Calif.

Sean Creadick caught six passes for 88 yards as the Aggies (2-3) ended a five-game losing streak against the Spartans. Wright completed 20 of 34 passes and did not throw an interception.

UC Davis won its first game against an FBS opponent since upsetting Stanford 20-17 in 2005, the only other time it accomplished the feat.

Jordan La Secla threw for 162 yards on 11-of-17 passing as the Spartans lost for the first time to an FCS team.

Fresno State 38, Cal Poly 17: Ryan Colburn passed for 206 yards and two touchdowns and the Bulldogs played shutout defense in the second half to defeat the Mustangs (3-2) in Fresno, Calif.

Tracy Slocum added 71 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs, who improved to 8-0 against FCS opponents during coach Pat Hills 14-year tenure.
