In brief: Topic: Conservation Futures

RIVERSIDE – Spokane County Parks, Recreation and Golf will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the IMAX Theater in Riverfront Park.

Public input is needed for the 2010 Conservation Futures nomination round. Thirty-six individual properties have been submitted for consideration as future public open space areas that will provide opportunities for outdoor recreation such as hiking and bicycling.

SCRAPS celebrates shelter dogs

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service will celebrate “Adopt-a-Shelter Dog” during October by raising awareness of adopting first.

SCRAPS has a variety of dogs available for adoption and offers an adoption program, staffed with trained counselors who are experienced in matching families and individuals with the right animal. SCRAPS vaccinates, microchips, spays or neuters, and licenses the dog before it goes home; and SCRAPS offers free dog training classes to help support owners in their adoption.

SCRAPS is at 2521 N. Flora Road and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 5:30 p.m.

Corn maze at Beck’s Harvest

COLBERT – Beck’s Harvest House, 9919 E. Greenbluff Road, offers family entertainment and a giant corn maze during October from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A smaller maze is available for younger children.

Cost is $8.
