Bullpups take down Tigers in soccer
Ashley Ames scored both goals for Gonzaga Prep, including the go-ahead goal in the 70th minute, as the Bullpups (12-5) handed Lewis and Clark (15-1-1) its first loss of the season, 2-1 in their District 8 4A girls soccer semifinal match Saturday at Albi Stadium.
The Bullpups will play Central Valley in the district championship match at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Albi to determine the No. 1 and No. 2 seed for the regional tournament. LC will play Mead for the third and final regional spot.
In other District 8 action, Paige Gallaway and Savannah Hoekstra scored goals for CV and Danae Brooks recorded 13 saves to lift the Bears (11-4) to a 2-1 victory over Mead (12-3) in the semifinals at Albi.
• 3A regional: Ashley Richardson snapped a scoreless tie in the 62nd minute and West Valley-Yakima eliminated University (7-5) with a 1-0 victory in the regional quarterfinals in Yakima.
• District 7 2A: Emily Van Orden finished with eight saves and blocked East Valley’s (12-6) final attempt in the shootout to lift Pullman (13-4-1) to a 3-2 edge in the shootout and a win in the championship match that ended 0-0 after regulation and two overtimes at Gonzaga Prep. The Greyhounds will advance as the No. 1 seed to regional, while EV advances as the No. 2 seed.

• District 7/9 2B/1B: Aaron Cadwallader scored a pair of goals and Northwest Christian advanced as the No. 1 seed to the regional tournament with a 5-4 victory over St. George’s at NWC. The Crusaders play Northport, which beat Dayton to advance to regionals. … St. George’s advances as the No. 2 to regionals and will play District 9 winner Waitsburg-Prescott Wednesday in Prescott.
