Religion Notebook: Congregation marks Jewish New Year

Congregation Emanu-El, a reform Jewish congregation, will celebrate its New Year with several services at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive.

The first service, Erev Rosh Hashanah, will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Next Thursday’s services will include a Rosh Hashanah children’s service at 9 a.m., and a Torah service at 10 a.m.

On Sept. 17 there will be a Kol Nidre service at 7 p.m.

Yom Kippur events include a 10 a.m. service, a 3 p.m. group discussion and a 4 p.m. memorial service. The afternoon services will be followed by a dairy-vegetarian break-the-fast potluck.

Student Rabbi Sara Abrams and cantorial soloist Susan Wyndham will conduct the services.

The Life Center Church, 1202 N. Government Way, will present “Journey from Mourning to Joy,” an 11-week, GriefShare, video, Bible-based class and support group starting Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The class will discuss grief and recovery for anyone grieving the death of someone close to them.

The cost for the course is $30.
