Area roundup: Vandals roll past Montana State in volleyball

Idaho set a school record with a 21-point win in the first game en route to a 25-4, 25-14, 25-23 volleyball victory over Montana State in Moscowon Sunday. Alicia Milo led the Vandals (4-4) with 14 kills.

• Jacksonville State earned a 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 win over Gonzaga (2-10) in the final match of the Pioneer Classic in Denver.

Women’s soccer

Gonzaga and Washington State both lost 2-1 decisions on the final day of play at the Gonzaga Tournament in Spokane.

Kristen Hamilton scored in the 87th minute to give Denver a win over the Bulldogs. Elle Sweeney scored for Gonzaga (3-4-1) in the 57th minute.

Kassidy Fitzpatrick’s goal less than a minute into overtime gave Colorado a victory over the Cougars. Micaela Castain scored her fifth goal of the season for WSU (2-6-0).

• DeeDee Garbe scored in the 17th minute to give Whitworth a 1-0 win over UC Santa Cruz at the Puget Sound Tournament in Tacoma. The Pirates (2-2) swept their two matches of the tournament.

• Wyoming used three second-half goals – two 90-seconds apart – for a 3-0 win over Eastern Washington (0-4-1) at the Montana Tournament in Missoula.

• Kristin DeCroix and Nicole Medeiros found the back of the net to give North Idaho (3-1-1) a 2-0 win over Evergreen State College in Olympia.

Men’s soccer

Stefan Eysteinsson scored his second career goal in the 86th minute to give Gonzaga a 1-0 win over Illinois-Chicago at the Seattle University Tournament in Seattle. Nick Love set up the decisive goal that gave the Bulldogs (2-1) two wins at the tournament.

Junior hockey

Rance Hughes scored twice as the Spokane Braves (1-1) beat the Grand Forks Border Bruins 5-2 at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.

Triathlon

Kalen Darling of Whitworthfinished 60th on Saturday at the World Triathlon Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Darling finished in 1 hour, 53 minutes, 15 seconds, less than 9 minutes behind the winner.
