Milo, Walker guide Vandals past Bulldogs

Behind 20 kills apiece from Alicia Milo and Allison Walker, Idaho (5-8) beat Gonzaga (2-12) in a five-game marathon match Saturday, winning the final game 23-21 at the Gonzaga tournament in Spokane.

Earlier in the day, Idaho fell to Wyoming (13-1) as Jodi Purdy tallied 14 kills and seven blocks and Wyoming swept its second straight opponent at the tournament.

Gonzaga also fell in its first match of the day against Seattle, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to even the match before losing the fifth game 15-7.

• Sarah Horton and Rachelle Allen combined for 23 kills and Montana State (6-6, 1-1) earned its first Big Sky Conference win with a 3-1 victory against Eastern Washington (1-10, 0-2) in Bozeman.

• Kaimi Rocha posted a career-high 23 kills and Whitworth (4-5, 1-1) rallied from down two games to beat Puget Sound (6-4, 1-1) 3-2 in Northwest conference action in Tacoma.

• Community Colleges of Spokane (15-4) opened play on the second day of the Walla Walla Crossover Tournament with sweeps against Olympic (25-14, 25-16) and SW Oregon (25-14, 25-15). CCS dropped its final match of the day 27-29, 29-27, 15-13 to Mt. Hood.

• Tina Stahinic had 21 kills and North Idaho (13-5) salvaged a split of its matches at the Southern Idaho Invitational with a 3-2 win against Navarro in Twin Falls. NIC lost to Frank Phillips (Texas) 3-2 earlier in the day.

Cross country

Host Washington earned first-place finishes in the men’s and women’s races at the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park in Seattle.

Idaho, which scored 72 points, finished second to the Huskies (22) in the 6,000-meter women’s race, led by a ninth-place finish from Hannah Kiser (21:30.79).

The Vandals men finished in the top three, scoring 78 points, with Barry Britt’s time of 24:12.58 (sixth place) leading the charge.

Women’s soccer

Demi Wignot assisted on a goal and scored another on a penalty kick in the 65th minute as North Idaho (4-2-1) shut out Northwest College 3-0 in nonconference action in Powell, Wyo.

• Courtney Kelly tallied a goal and an assist to lead Community Colleges of Spokane (5-0) to a 2-0 win over Whatcom CC (3-4) in nonconference action in Bellingham.

Men’s soccer

Nino Tursic tallied a pair of goals and Whatcom CC (2-3-1) beat Community Colleges of Spokane (4-3) 4-1 in nonconference play in Bellingham.

Hockey

Derrick Delisser’s goal in the second period lifted the Princeton Posse (1-3) to their first win in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League season, beating the Spokane Braves (2-2) 2-1 in Princeton, British Columbia.
