Connors, McEnroe renewing rivalry
Tennis: Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe will renew their rivalry when they square off for the first time in 10 years at a World Team Tennis match.
Connors will play for the Philadelphia Freedoms against McEnroe’s New York Sportimes on July 14 at Randall’s Island in Manhattan.
The Sportimes say they also will play doubles.
Connors last played McEnroe on the ATP Tour in 1991. McEnroe leads the series 20-14.
Connors said “there’s always something special about playing John, especially in front of a New York crowd.” McEnroe said they “love to put on a show.”
Connors will be playing his eighth season with World Team Tennis. His last was in 2001.

Resort owner Scroggie dies
Outdoors: Jim Scroggie, 86, who operated Fishtrap Lake Resort from 1952 to 2001, died on March 28.
Although he and his late wife, Edith, made their living behind the resort counter or keeping docks and rental boats afloat during the fishing seasons, Scroggie worked year-round doing anything needed to improve the fishing, said Chris Donley, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife district fisheries biologist.
The resort, 35 miles west of Spokane, is still one of the region’s most popular family fishing attractions on “opening day,” which is April 30 this year.
Services for Scroggie are set for today, 1 p.m., at the Cheney Funeral Chapel, 1632 W. First St. in Cheney.
